2021’s 1619(b) Thresholds Announced

Social Security is on the ball this year and has already announced the new threshold figures for the 1619(b) SSI work incentive.

1619(b), so-called as that is the section of the Social Security Act that defines the terms, allows working SSI beneficiaries to maintain their Medical Assistance and SSI eligibility when earned income is so high it causes them to lose their SSI cash payments. Each state has a different threshold amount as the calculation is based on the average Medicaid expenses in each state.

There is good news for Maryland residents as the new threshold now stands at $44,729, an increase of over $3,000 on the 2020 figure.
